optimism has been replaced with the reality

FASB가 6월에 예정되었던 회의에 오지 못한다는 이메일.

Our optimism has been replaced with the realilty라는 표현이 새롭다.

그리고 COVID-19이 아니라 COVID라고만 쓴 것도 눈에 띈다.  

 

Dear XX

I hope that you and your family are well.  When we corresponded back in early March, we were very optimistic about the possibility of having an in-person meeting in June. As the weeks and months have passed and the situation and the effects of COVID have worsened, our optimism has been replaced with the reality that we still face significant state, national, and international quarantines and travel restrictions. 
 
Given that, unfortunately we will be unable to visit your offices on June 3 in-person.  We appreciate all of the arrangements (and rearrangements) that you’ve made. We would be happy to arrange for a virtual meeting on June 3 (or otherwise) if you’d like that includes a “meet and greet” with the incoming FASB Chairman.  
 
We appreciate your continued understanding and look forward to connecting in the future.
